Welcome to CCC Introduces, our series of interviews spotlighting our diverse roster of contributors. Today, we welcome Nate, a multi-disciplinary rider and snowboarder from London and a cornerstone of Ride 4 Unity, a collective focused on improving diversity in cycling.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Nathaniel (aka Nate/SIUUUU), based in London. I'm a Railway Engineer and I'm a multi-discipline cyclist: I ride road, gravel and I participate in cyclocross races. I also enjoy snowboarding & table tennis.

What do you love about cycling?

There’s always room for improvement – a constant journey of growth. Cycling makes me feel alive and free. I’m fascinated by the technical aspects, from groupsets to gear ratios, and how they all come together. It’s also a place where I can connect with people and spread positive, infectious energy. I’m grateful to have worked with amazing cycling brands like Zwift, WTB, and previously DHB, helping to promote diversity and inclusivity in the cycling world

What barriers have you faced in cycling?

Cycling as a bigger rider often comes with its own set of challenges. There’s a disparity of opinions about what’s 'acceptable' or 'appropriate' for riders of different body types, which can sometimes feel limiting. The elitism that exists within cycling, with its focus on certain body standards and gear, can make it difficult to fit into the traditional spaces of the sport. But cycling should be for everyone, regardless of size or background.

Why were you interested in contributing?

Partnering with cycling brands to promote diversity and inclusivity in the cycling community. Bringing positive energy and vibrant vibes to the space, I want to show that cycling is for everyone, regardless of background or experience I believe CCC can help with that.

My fondest memory on the bike

Grinduro California, May 2023 - gravel in Mt. Shasta. Rolling with Ride of Unity!
