Tell us about yourself
Kim, 19, I got into cycling back in 2020. At the start of the first lockdown, I couldn’t stand sitting at home, so I took my dad’s bike for a spin to see how it was, and I loved it. My first job was working in a bike shop, and that helped me grow my bike knowledge.
What do you love about cycling?
Meeting new people or being able to see your friends out and about cycling as you commute to work or on your day off.
What barriers have you faced in cycling?
I don’t know if this counts, but it’s probably obstructions, i.e. pot holes, cars parked in the cycle lanes, or pedestrians stepping out without looking. All these things make cycling difficult and unappealing.
Why were you interested in contributing?
Working in a bike shop, you meet some amazing people like Miles, and when he told me what he does, I wanted to push myself beyond the boundaries and try something new.
Your fondest memory on the bike?
Probably just being able to ride around with my friends—morning laps, evening laps, junk miles, or long rides—are the things I cherish.
