Tell us about yourself. I'm Hannah, based in Innsbruck, the best city in the world for sports, especially cycling. I'm a doctor and race in ultra-distance gravel and asphalt events.
What do you love about cycling? Cycling is unrestricted. The only limits are the ones you set for yourself. On a bike, you can cover distances that would be impossible on foot or by car, all under your own power. For me, cycling is freedom, feeling alive, living in the moment, and finding happiness.
What barriers have you faced in cycling? I've often been too influenced by the opinions of other "experienced" cyclists: women can't ride long distances, they're not strong enough – until I realized they were only speaking about their own limits and fears. Today, I have plenty of responses for any ignorant comments, along with the confidence and power to keep up with them on the climbs, and often even leave them behind.
Why were you interested in contributing? I want to encourage people who doubt themselves because others have told them they can't do it. It's important to show that the only person who can and should make that judgment is themselves.
Your fondest memory on the bike. Every time I realize I'm unconsciously smiling or laughing. And each time, I feel grateful for the happiness I get to experience.
