1. Tell us about yourselves.

We're Alessandro and Nunziella, fueling the adventure on two wheels as The Bike Challenge!

Two Italians turned Londoners, we've been exploring the UK and Europe by bike since 2016.

When we're not pedaling, we power the digital world as a Software Developer and Digital Designer.

2. What do you love about cycling

The freedom of bike travel is everything. We discover hidden gems inaccessible by car or train.

Once we started travelling via bike we started noticing details of places we never saw before and it empowered us to travel a lot more and explore areas we wouldn't have seen using other means of transportation.

3. What barriers have you faced in cycling?

When we started riding we had several issues fitting in some of the London rides as they were too fast for us beginners. We struggled to find a group that welcomed us without the 'race culture' and when we found Penge CC it changed our idea of cycling.

Another aspect of barriers for Nunziella was having other women in the ride.

Unfortunately, cycling is still very much a male-centric sport and there's only a small percentage of women participating in rides, especially in gravel. We aim to change that in our group rides.

4. Why were you interested in contributing?

We both love cycling and I take photos and videos on IG and YouTube as well as writing blogs of our nicest adventures on the bike.

We thought it'd be a great fit for the Cycling Culture Club and we are thrilled to join their ranks.

5. Your fondest memory on the bike?

It has to be from London to Bruges. We wrote a blog on Gravel Union about it for a reason!

It was a very enjoyable, beginner-friendly trip that went through 3 countries in 2 days. We got to introduce bikepacking to our friend Kalliope who never cycled such a long distance before. She struggled in some sections but overall loved the food, the chill pace and the memories we had together and she already booked us for another trip in August through the north-west coast of France!
